Since I planned our meals for this trip with the help of Chowhound, I thought it only fair that I post our thoughts about what we had this last weekend!
Day 1 – Lunch – Milos at the Cosmopolitan
We took advantage of the $20.11 lunch special, and it did not disappoint! Darling Husband and I each started with the tomato salad, DH got salmon while I got the grilled bass, and then I had fresh fruit while he had the yogurt martini. The tomato salad was out of this world, and overall, everything was fresh, light, and a great way to start our trip after we checked in.
Day 1 – Dinner – Wicked Spoon Buffet at the Cosmo
DH wanted a buffet, so we decided to check out the Wicked Spoon. Overall, it’s a buffet. But, I did appreciate the custom mac and cheese station, and the dessert section alone made this stop worth it. They had chocolate covered strawberries dipped in toffee bits (I think I had 6 of these!) and a great salted peanut gelato, along with many cute little tarts of all kinds, shortcake, and other goodies.
Day 2 – Breakfast – Bouchon
Their quiche is really something special – I don’t know how they make it so custard-y, but it was amazing. Perfectly dressed greens on the side. DH had the omelet special, loved that as well.
Day 2 – Lunch – Spago
Spago lunch has turned into a tradition for us whenever we go to Vegas. We split the chicken sausage pizza (good spice level, crust good but not great), and the chicken meatball sandwich (nice bread, something unique about the tomato sauce that neither of us could place, but we enjoyed it). Solid overall, but no wow moment.
Day 2 – Dinner – Le Cirque
This was our big bucks dinner, but sooooo worth it. We had the tasting menu and wine pairing. The setting was intimate, but I didn’t feel crowded, and our wait staff took good care of us throughout the night. Amuse was a butternut squash soup, very yummy. DH started with escargot, which he loved so much he wouldn’t share, and I had the lobster salad, which was light and paired well with the Chablis. Next up was the foie gras, which we both had. I don’t know that I’ve ever had better. Honestly, this ranks up with one of the top courses I’ve ever had, and DH agreed. Simply amazing! We then moved to the fish course and each had the turbot. It was lovely, but faded when compared to the foie. DH then moved to venison, while I had the sea bass. DH really liked his venison, cooked perfectly, with a yummy sauce, and the potato-wrapped sea bass was done very well – the potatoes were crispy, the fish moist, and the pinot reduction complemented it well. Pre-dessert was a small plum cake, very nice, and we really got the flavor of the plums. I picked the green apple dessert (really refreshing, not too sweet), and DH got the banana soufflé, which was one of the special flavors of the night (very banana-y, again, not too sweet). We ended with a tray of petit fours and I got a little jewelry box with a truffle in each drawer. Wines throughout the night were a lot of fun and complemented the meal well – it’s fun to try what the sommelier picked, especially when it’s something we wouldn’t have normally ordered. Totally worth the price!
Day 3 – Brunch – Border Grill
We were drawn here because DH loves Mexican, we’ve seen the owners on Top Chef, and we got a coupon for restaurant.com, $5 for $25 off. Overall, meh. Between the two of us, we tried about half the menu, and the only things I can say I really liked were the green corn tamales and the fruit plate. At least I got $5 bottomless mimosas…
Day 3 – Snack – No-Name Pizza Place at the Cosmo
Thanks, CHers, for the heads up on this one! Great white pizza. Another note – there’s a wine shop on the 2nd floor of the Cosmo, and if you have their Players Card, there’s a complementary wine tasting on Saturday afternoons. Nice wines and generous pours!
Day 3 – Dinner – American Fish at the Aria
We got the Signature Tasting Menu here. Bread came out first, grilled ciabatta (great grilled flavor) and super yummy corn muffins. We both started with the tuna tartare, nice addition of pine nuts for a little crunch. We then also both got the griddled mackerel, which had this fabulous ginger-lime broth surrounding it. For the main, I got the branzino and DH got the trout. Both good, but I totally won this course with the great sauces that accompanied the fish and the tomatoes and arugula on the side. DH got the mascarpone cheesecake to end, and I got the cheese tasting. The cheesecake was creamy and delicious, and the cheese plate had a soft goat cheese, a strong blue cheese, and another that I can’t remember, but it was a good contrast to the others. Very nice!
Day 4 – Breakfast – Payard at Caesar’s
Early breakfast to get ready for the early football games. I had the Eggs Florentine, DH had a vanilla waffle. Both very good.
Day 4 – Dinner – Stack at the Mirage
We had tickets to see Love at the Mirage, and had an early flight the next morning, so we had the pre-theater menu at Stack. We honestly didn’t have high expectations, but thought we’d try it since it was convenient. I started with the lobster tacos, which were better than anything I had at Border Grill, and DH had the corn soup, which was thinner than expected but still tasted nice. DH then had skirt steak (thumbs up), and I had the roast chicken (nice crisp skin and nice chicken-y chicken). Dessert was mint chocolate chip bonbons with a Bailey’s chocolate sauce for dipping, and jelly doughnut holes – both yummy. A nice surprise!
And now, back to reality…
