33's last chance

Decided to give 33 Restaurant a revisit, based on a recent newspaper report that suggested the menu and look had been revamped. The menu is definitely a simpler, New American one, replacing the odd half-Italian, half-French original. The room seems a little quieter.

Service, however, is abominable. Ten minutes from the time we sit down till they take away extra place settings, another five till someone shows up with menus, ten minutes to take a drink order, 15 minutes before the drinks arrive, etc., etc. A simple dinner -- drinks, apps, entrees, a couple of glasses of wine -- takes an hour and a half on a night when the dining room is half empty. Painful.

This is no doubt due to the tag-team approach they take here, with two waiters, the hostess, and a service waiter sharing waiting responsibilities. This works when it's coordinated, a disaster when it's not. It is not coordinated here. At every interaction, three people come by to ask us the same question, yet no one seems to take the responsibility to follow up on the request. Pitiful.

Apps are so-so, entress pretty good. But I'm putting this place on my Dead Pool list. Nobody this clueless about how to serve dinner deserves to stay in business.
