this was our first time to this sleek, subdued, comfortable place. many many plusses: the food was super, the service knowledgable and attentive and friendly, the music was not jazz or techno,but quiet and soothing spanish guitar.and unlike most restaurants these days, the tables had very generous spacing between them , the chairs were very comfortable, and the noise level was actually low, even with a nearly-filled room.
apps: succulent perfect rendition of rabbit tagliatelle w/ wine/demiglace sauce and wild mushrooms; chevre and roasted tomato tart.
entrees: we both could not resist ordering the seared scallops on bed of diced celery root/parsnips, with soy and red wine beurre rouge emulsion and wild mushrooms.sides of '3 bean cassoulet' and large meaty asparagus; both very succulent.the portions were astoundingly generous. i can honestly say that in all my years of 'fine dining', with entrees in the $20's-low $30's, i have never had such large plate portions.the chevre tart was easily twice the size of any other app size i've been served- 3 wide wedges, with 2 generous mounds of light crunchy haricots verts/black olive salad. and there were 4 GIGANTIC seared scallops, with the delicious set-up i described, for $28. and none of the ubiquitous 'oh my precious' spoonful of vegetables and drizzle of sauce. instead, the bed of starch/vegetables lasted as long as the protein and the sauce was ample.
in addition, the chef sent out 2 different 'amuse bouche', one a superb champagne'water' with raspberry and lime that was very marguerita-like and refreshing.the other a creamy luscious feta tartlet. the complementary olive spread with bread-was better than any i've had.
one dessert- bananas foster bread pudding with loads of rum-caramelized banana slices, a deep fried banana slice and a deep chocolate ice cream scoop.
i had tried to find a CH post for this place before we went but could find nothing. I am so glad we forged ahead. the number of times i have had this good a 'soup -to-nuts' dinner- have been far too few. it was a terrific experience and we look forward to returning.
