a ridiculous request, but here goes.
three foodies (one a former restaurant critic) need your help with a precious 12 hours in manhattan--on a saturday. we don't want the most expensive, most extravagant, but don't want to pinch pennies if it's worth it. hate trendy for trendy's sake; we've had delicious eats at le bernadin and balthazar but also at tiny, whole in the wall indian and chinese. give us your best hits.
also, which food shops sshould we see? (we've done the d&d and balducci's route). spots for lunch/dinner? farmers' markets that shouldn't be missed? bakeries that encapsulate what nyc does best?
other specific ?'s:
is there a maison du chocolat in nyc? is there a better chocolate shop?
pearl oyster bar--worth the hassles?
usc--live up to its rep?
bridge kitchen--special enough for a trip?
