First of all, thanks for the replies over the past few weeks -- Excellent advice was received -- Excellent meals followed.
Thursday May 21 -- after finally arriving in the West End (Granville St was a real -slow- mess) we decided that the best thing to do was go have a late lunch at Gyoza King on Robson. "Old School Japanese" at it's finest. We were impressed with all items we tried. Service was welcoming and fast. Little English was spoken, in fact our table of 4 was the only non Asian table in the small packed space. The gyozas were outstanding, my favorite was the pork, prawn, & chive. The ebi-mayo prawns have to be a must order, as was a simple salad with thin slices of cucumber, fresh tomato, with a peanut sauce dressing. The Miso Soup was good as well. We all gave this place 4.5 stars (out of 5) and left thinking that we are really going to have a fun foodie time here in Vancouver.
Thursday night May 21 -- Chau -- Robson. This Vietnamese restaurant looked very inviting. From the get-go the staff seemed stressed and under pressure. All of the servers seemed real young and inexperienced. After we had asked questions regarding drinks (from the drink menu) the server recommend Rumlyns ... only to come back minutes later to inform us that they were out of rum...really. We had a decent meal, the only item that really stood out was the 17 Spiced Ribs. Truly great. With the stress level thick and the dropping of a few plates during our dinner, we thought we would call it a night. (2.7 out of 5)
