I want to go public with my gratitude to The Rogue for alerting me to 27 Sunrise Seafood Restaurant, at 27 Division Street. We ate there on Wednesday night, and it was superb.
We sat right by the tanks. The fish, crabs, shrimp, and prawns put on a terrific floor show. Even better, though, was the performance of the kitchen. The waitstaff and management were also as helpful as they could be, given the language difficulties. (BTW, we seemed to be the only non-Asians in the full room.)
We started off with Seafood and Bean Curd Soup. Actually, I had ordered the Sliced Pork, Seaweed, and Bean Curd Soup, but we had a little miscommunication. No problem: what we got was excellent. A delicate broth tasting like the sea, full of bean curd, seaweed (laver, maybe?), and bits of lobster. And enough to bring home a quart for later eating.
Then we had some creatures from the tank, which I have since learned were mantis shrimp. Salt-baked, they were the sweetest crustacean I've ever eaten. Finally, striped bass steamed with soy, scallion, and ginger. Could not have tasted fresher, and the balance of the flavors was perfect.
This magnificence was not inexpensive: about $70 (incl. 2 beers). But I can't wait to go back!
