$20.02 lunch at Cafe Boulud

Went with Mom and a friend to Cafe Boulud for the tourist special. I was expecting bad service and small portions, but I was happily surprised. We had a terrific meal with only one service lapse. We did get the free starters, salmon tartare with caviar and codfish puffs, they were great. We all had the butternut squash soup which was OK. I had the veal blanquette which was rich and satisfying. Quite filling even tho the portion looked small. It was a bit non-traditional with the vegetables cooked separately. I tried my friend's veal and beef ravioli - melt in the mouth good. Mom's codfish basquaise was very tangy, she enjoyed it. We all had the apple betty for dessert, enjoyable, not heart stopping. The staff was very attentive, until the coffee order (which is another $3.50 to the bill), we received it late. I know that little chocolates are usually included, I saw other tables get them. The waiter mumbled if we wanted anything else, perhaps that was a hint for the accompanying dish, but we were so full we decided not to press the issue. This meal was a definite bargain and a real pleasure.
