I was craving a little beach air yesterday, so we chose Hermosa Beach because I knew it would be bustling and the people watching is great.
I am pretty steadfast in my loyalty to the "Eastside" but man...when you want some ocean air, it's nice to know it's only a 30 min. drive away.
We walked around for a while, not sure of what we wanted. Finally, we ended up at Mediterraneo, right on Pier Ave. just steps from the beach. Nice outdoor seating, inside has a gorgeous bar and cozy booths. Even though it was 6:30 on a Saturday, we were seated immediately at a choice outside table.
Little did we know, it was happy hour! 7 days a week, 5PM-7PM. Tapas are 2 for 1, draft beers $2.50, and house wine $3.00 a glass. Tuesdays nights, tapas are 2 for 1 all night long.
The tapas were good, especially for the price. Nicely spiced grilled shrimp, roasted eggplant wrapped around mozzarella cheese, wonderful Spanish sausage grilled with grapes.
This isn't exactly gourmet, but it's always a treat to eat so near the ocean without paying through the nose for it. Definitely a place I would bring out of towners.
We also stopped in at Creme de la Crepe for dessert crepes. It's run by a lovely man who worked all the tables and patiently explained all the details on the menu. There is no corkage, and a wine store is just a block away. The espresso drinks are perfect and the crepes were light with a slight crispiness. A very cute little place.
