Yesterday I got an email alert from Grocery Outlet that it had received some close-out wines from distributor Wine Warehouse. I stopped by the Salinas, CA store this afternoon to check out the delivery. Neither the Brunello nor Montrachet mentioned in the email were anywhere to be seen. But I did purchase some other wines, all priced at $15.99.
2005 Qupe’ Bien Nacido X Block “The Good Nacido” Syrah MAGNUM, $150 value
Oldest block of Syrah at Bien Nacido vineyard, 12 barrels produced
2005 DARE (part of Viader) Napa Valley Tempranillo, $40 value
2005 Patz & Hall “Dutton Ranch” Russian River Valley Chardonnay, $38 value
93 points WA
91 points WS
2003 Bouchard Pere 1er cru Beaune Greves “Vigne de l’Enfant Jesus” (Red Burgundy), $50 value
2006 Eugenio Collavini “BROY” Collio Bianco (Friuli), $50 value
Bottle signed by winemaker on 5 July 2010 with retailers tag of $52.99
3 bicchieri Gambero Rosso
2005 Luigi Einaudi Rosso delle Langhe (14% abv), $50-70 value
2 bicchieri Gambero Rosso
I took the only two magnums of the Qupe’ syrah on the shelf, but I left plenty behind of the others. And there are many other wines that could be worthwhile. Inventory will vary from store to store.
Some of the labels were ripped and I noticed that some of the corks on the Luigi Einaudi were pushed. I’m opening one tonight to check condition.
The annual 20% off all wine sale starts next week. But I didn’t want to wait till then and chance some of these disappearing.
