I need your help. I write on an Austin travel forum and we get questions several times a week from tourists (especially from overseas) asking where they can go for a fantastic BBQ experience. We tend to list our favorites and then it's up to them to search those websites and make a decision of where to go. Keep in mind they have no clue where these places are and 90% have no car, just staying in a downtown Austin hotel.
Some of the answers they get are to skip Austin BBQ and head out to Lockhart. BOOOOO! I used to live in Lockhart and I went to lunch in a carpool situation on Tues to Black's and I won't be back. (Sorry, if you are Lockhart BBQ fan).
Other answers are, of course, Salt Lick. Not crazy about it, but it certainly does have ambience, especially on a 70 degree day!
Sooooo, if you were from, lets say, Australia or UK or Chicago and wanted to sample some Austin BBQ downtown and did not have time to stand in line at Franklins, where would you go. Some of the spots are reachable by one Capital Metro bus from downtown, so that is not a problem for some who have no car. Just know that they are here for 2 to 3 days and have a lot on their sightseeing agenda.
Thanks in advance for your help!
