St. Patrick's Day

St. Patrick's Day is your chance to play with all the ways you can cook with and enjoy Irish beer. You can make Guinness-braised beef, Guinness chocolate ice cream, Guinness cupcakes, and Guinness cream soda just for starters. We've got all sorts of recipes you can use to celebrate not only the drinks, but also the food, of this verdant island to the east. And while we love the Americanized holiday that almost mandates inebriation, you can honor the culinary traditions of Ireland by making some great soda bread or brown bread, and some Reuben potato skins or garlicky pot roast. Of course fish is also big in this land surrounded by water, and Boston baked beans recall the hub of America's Irish immigrants. And let's not forget all those sheep grazing on the rolling grassy hills: Shepherd's pie is a sound choice for the holiday, and we've got a few different versions, from traditional lamb and mashed potato to using sweet potatoes or kohlrabi, and making the filling vegetarian or beef.
