While there are numerous ways you can elevate your coffee, a simple step like pre-wetting your coffee filter can improve your coffee’ flavor and streamline the brewing process.

Pre-wetting the coffee filter will help prevent the filter’s papery flavor from mixing into your coffee. Simply place the filter in the coffee maker and pour hot water over it.

This will flush out all those extra flavors before you add the grounds and preheat the filter for the brewing process. Just make sure to dispose of that rinsing water.

Additionally, pre-wetting the filter helps the water distribute through the grounds more easily because everything is evenly saturated and water channels are less likely to form.

Lastly, this hack will ensure the filter stays in place during the brewing cycle. So there’s a smaller chance of the filter collapsing and grounds making their way into the carafe.
