To make your own iced mocha at home, all you need is cocoa, instant coffee, a whisk, and advice from Matt Woodburn-Simmonds, founder of Home Coffee Expert.
Milk being poured into glass of mocha
Per Woodburn-Simmonds, the first step "is to whisk sugar, cocoa powder, instant coffee, and a little milk in a pan over a low heat until you get a chocolatey coffee syrup."

Woodburn-Simmonds stresses that you want to "use a 2-to-1 coffee-to-cocoa ratio." Pour in a bit of cold milk and water while stirring, and finish with a hand blender.

Pouring the hot syrup over ice can dilute the drink, so Woodburn-Simmonds suggests making the coffee and cocoa mixture strong using large-format ice cubes that won't melt quickly.

Be sure to use instant coffee with fair trade and certified organic labels, such as Mount Hagen. Avoid using dark chocolate powder, as it can make the drink too bitter.
