Why Your Oven Door Should Stay Open While You Broil

Broiling means quickly searing and browning food using direct heat from an oven's top element. When using this cooking method, it helps to leave the oven door slightly ajar.
Broiling is a high-heat process that can easily lead to overcooked or burnt food. By leaving the door open, you can closely monitor the food and alter the temperature as needed.
Propping the door open also lets excess heat and steam escape, giving your food a crisp, grill-like finish. Without this airflow, steam can build up and prevent proper browning.
