Aldi is the cheapest grocery store in America, but there are some products that you should think twice about before buying. One such item is the chicken.
On the r/Aldi subreddit, some of the most common complaints are that the store's chicken is low quality, tough, and woody — meaning incredibly tough and fibrous.
Woody chicken is a growing issue, and it's not localized to Aldi. The problem is thought to stem from selective breeding and excessive feeding of chickens to rapidly force growth.
To get better chicken, look out for pale meat with white stripes across the flesh or bulging spots. Note that chickens over nine pounds are more likely to be woody.
