Dirty plates and silverware
Many people wonder if it’s convenient for servers when customers stack their plates after a meal. Unfortunately, there isn't a single, clear-cut answer.
Serving carrying dirty dishes
In general, it seems that experts generally say you shouldn't stack your plates at a restaurant. Most servers have their own system for clearing tables.
Lots of dirty dishes
It can even slow servers down if they have to re-stack all the plates. Stacking the plates may even reflect poorly on diners, suggesting they don't know how to eat out.

However, you should stack your plates in a fast-casual restaurant where customers are expected to bus their own tables. The higher-end the restaurant, the more of a no-no it is.
Stack of plates with leftover food
If you decide to stack your plates, don't do it until everybody has finished eating. Also, stack the plates as evenly as you possibly can so that the pile doesn't wobble.

Make sure that the leftovers plate isn't overfull so the server won't stick their hand into your half-eaten food. Put silverware on the top plate in the stack or on the side.
