Since expanding to the U.S. in 1970, Babybel has expanded beyond their Edam-style Original cheese to include different cheese styles such as Gouda, white cheddar, and mozzarella.
Babybel's Original variety is mild and semi-firm with a creamy yet dense texture. Its flavor is nutty yet sweet, helping it pair well with almost anything.
The Original flavor was such a hit that it eventually launched a lightened-up version of the same Edam-type cheese, though some claimed to notice a change in texture.
Babybel first introduced its mozzarella flavor in 2013 and released an updated version in 2023, noting it would have "an even creamier, true mozzarella taste."
Babybel's newest flavor is Monterey Jack, which was released in 2023. This flavor joins others like Gouda, described as "slightly sweet" and "nutty," and White Cheddar.
In 2022, the brand even released a plant-based variety, describing it as having "soft, smooth, and creamy texture, developed to taste like Mozzarella cheese."
