The drip coffee and the French press are two popular coffee making machines, with the major difference being that a French press is manual while a drip coffee is more automatic.
In the French press, you add coarsely ground coffee to a carafe's bottom and pour hot water, but in a drip machine you place a paper filter with medium-ground coffee in it.
Pushing a button in a drip coffee machine allows water in its reservoir to heat and pour over the grounds. In French presses, you manually stir water and grounds, and let it steep.
Drip coffee is extracted through the filter and into a carafe or cup below automatically, whereas you push the plunger down to separate the grinds from coffee in a French press.
The direct immersion of the water and ground beans make French press coffees extra rich and bold. Due to its brewing process, drip coffees have less flavor, and usually caffeine.
While a French press grants more control and flexibility in the brew, a drip coffee is more consistent and effortless. A French press is also more portable and easier to clean.
