Instead of throwing out onion peels, turn them into onion powder by washing, drying, and baking them at 150 degrees Fahrenheit for three hours, or using a food dehydrator.
Once dried, crush the peels into a fine powder using a mortar and pestle, blender, or even your hands, and store in an airtight container for up to a year.
Homemade onion powder is rich in antioxidants, vitamins, and minerals, and can enhance dishes like garlic mashed potatoes or Alfredo pasta.
If you don't need onion powder, you can also use onion skins to make a delicious stock. Onion skins can also be used as an aromatic soup base.
