The Simple Way To Bring Homemade Flavor To Canned Beans

By ROBERT HAYNES-PETERSON

To convert bland canned beans into an exciting side or main dish with a minimal amount of added kitchen time, just add some easy-to-find fresh veggies, proteins, and spices.
Simply use whatever's already sitting in your kitchen: Dice up an onion or leftover cooked pork chop, sauté some mushrooms, sprinkle in oregano, or add a dash hot sauce.
Prior to adding the beans, drizzle a little oil in the bottom of the pot or pan, then toss in your ingredients. After you add the beans, jazz them up with some spices.
Customize the spices you use to complement whatever you're preparing for the rest of your meal. This way, you can make each canned bean dish distinctly different.
