While store-bought marinara sauce is great for quick dinners, it can be a bit bland. However, there is a secret ingredient that will make it taste much richer: fish sauce.
Store-bought tomato sauce can
be heavily sweet and even sour thanks to the acidity of the tomatoes, and fish sauce gives it a much-needed umami boost.
Adding about a tablespoon of fish sauce to the marinara while it simmers brings both umami and saltiness to the sauce, adding depth and making the taste less one-dimensional.
