2023's global chocolate sales hit a remarkable 7.5 million tons, and a small country takes pride in having the highest chocolate consumption per capita: Switzerland.
Switzerland has just under 9 million people, and according to data in 2024, the average individual in Switzerland consumed an impressive 22 pounds of chocolate a year.
The country is a powerhouse of chocolate craftsmanship, home to iconic brands like Lindt and Toblerone. The country also hosts an annual chocolate festival called Festichoc.
The high consumption per capita is because chocolate plays a great role in Swiss gifting customs, and the Swiss are extremely
proud of Swiss-made brands.
With so many options to choose from, the variety may make it nearly impossible to resist exploring new flavors, and chocolate is a go-to comfort food during Swiss winters.
