The Lowest And Highest Quality Steak At Chain Restaurants

NEWS

High: Fogo De Chão

Brazilian steakhouse Fogo de Chão takes its meat incredibly seriously, sourcing only from vendors that follow strict guidelines when it comes to animal welfare.
Many customers agree that the commitment to high-quality steaks is reflected in the food, with some ranking Fogo de Chão as one of the best meals ever.

Low: Olive Garden

While Olive Garden has plenty of great dishes, none of them involve steak. A common complaint on Reddit includes the meat being tough and full of gristle.
In 2024, there were reports that the chain's shareholders were putting pressure on the company to make serious commitments to change its stance on using antibiotics in their meat.

High: LongHorn Steakhouse

Envisioned as a place where a customer could get a great steak at a low cost, LongHorn Steakhouse has always aimed to deliver quality.
The company uses partially grass-fed, grain-finished, never-frozen, USDA Choice meats cooked by trained professionals, giving customers the best dining experience.

Low: Applebee's

While Applebee made a show about their wood-fired grills and hand-cut steaks in 2016, customers have been unimpressed by the quality of the chain's meat.
Applebee's sources USDA Select meats, typically the lowest grade sold as a retail cut. They are generally leaner, less tender, and less flavorful than Prime and Choice.

High: Ruth's Chris

Ruth's Chris Steakhouse sources and serves its customers USDA prime — the highest quality of choice steaks — from suppliers in the Midwestern U.S.
The chain uses special methods to get the most out of the meats, like a 28-day aging process, heavy emphasis on marbling, and cooking in a broiler that reaches 1800 Fahrenheit.
