The process of preparing crispy fried chicken for a Fourth of July party can be messy and time-consuming, leaving you stuck in the kitchen all day making batch after batch.

When chef Ina Garten prepares fried chicken, she briefly fries it to get a crisp, golden brown crust and then cooks it in the oven for 30-40 minutes right before guests arrive.

Garten says on her website, "I marinate the chicken in buttermilk so it's moist… fry it quickly on the stove so it's crispy, and finally… roast it in the oven so it's not… greasy."

When employing this tip, you can even store the par-fried chicken in the fridge if you're not eating for a while and let it come to room temperature before putting it in the oven.
