The Fish You Should Avoid Ordering At A Restaurant

If you're a seafood aficionado, you may want to avoid ordering a red snapper at a restaurant or buying it at a grocery, as it's highly likely you'll get some other type of fish.
Researchers in this field have sometimes labeled red snapper as the number one species that gets mislabeled, though it's hard to say exactly how often red snapper is mislabeled.
A 2019 study found that it happened 77% of the time, while 100% of red snapper in sushi restaurants they studied was fake. A 2004 study found that 60% of red snapper were fake.
More recent studies have put the rate anywhere from 45% to 90%. While restaurants are worse in mislabeling, red snappers from supermarkets are only a bit more likely to be legit.
