The Extra Ingredient That Turns Canned Tomatoes Into Tasty Soup

For a creamy tomato soup, all you need to do is blend up some roasted tomatoes and mix them with cream and broth. However, adding brown sugar to that mix can work wonders.
Before roasting your seasoned tomatoes, coat them with a tablespoon or two of brown sugar, which will caramelize as it cooks and imbue the tomatoes with a subtle molasses flavor.
Along with adding sweetness and balancing out the more acidic notes, the brown sugar will also bring out the tomato’s unique flavor, resulting in a more robust tomato soup.
This hack works perfectly with canned tomatoes, which are commonly preferred when making soup. Just be sure to thoroughly drain the tomatoes before roasting them.
