The Creation Of Texas Toast Was Actually A Restaurant Mishap

If you've ever wondered why the state of Texas gets its own toast, the answer is that it was actually a happy accident that can be traced to a former barbecue chain, The Pig Stand.
In 1941, a manager at the chain's restaurant in Beaumont — or Denton, per an alternate story — asked their supplier for a thicker-cut bread, though it's not clear for what reason.
In any case, when the bread arrived, it didn't fit in the kitchen's toasters. Then, a cook came up with the idea to butter it and grill it instead, and Texas Toast was born.
