One of the easiest methods
to reduce the fishiness of a salmon filet is to use a cedar grilling plank, which is basically a pre-cut piece of wood designed for use on a grill.
Seasoned salmon on a wooden plank
A grilling plank infuses the fish with a woodsy, smoky flavor and eliminates its fishiness. It also keeps food from falling through the grill, eliminating the need for cleanup.

To cook salmon using a grill plank, start by soaking the plank in water. The soaking time varies from plank to plank, so follow the instructions printed on your plank’s package.

After soaking, place the plank on the grill over medium indirect heat and cover it for three minutes. Once it blackens, lay the salmon skin-side down on
it and cover the grill.

Cook the salmon undisturbed until it reaches fork-tender consistency. While it’s normal for the plank to start to smoke, the plank catching fire is something to be careful about.
Pile of Amazon packing boxes
Covering most of the plank’s surface area can keep it from igniting. You can buy grilling planks from specialty online retailers and Amazon, where a pack of 12 costs under $20.
