Making a dip from miso isn't a new concept, as its umami flavor pairs perfectly with the saltiness of potato chips. However, using an instant miso soup mix makes it interesting.
Instant miso soup mix in a scoop.
Instant miso soup comes in one or two parts: A sachet containing the powdered miso base and sometimes a packet containing freeze-dried foods like vegetables, tofu, and wakame.
Green onions against a white background.
Many miso soup mix powders also include green onions and powdered bonito (tuna). Because they're dehydrated, these ingredients are all super concentrated in flavor.
Dip in a bowl.
To prepare the dip, all you have to do is add the sachet of powdered soup (and the sachet of additional ingredients, if applicable) to your base of choice.
Sour cream in a wooden bowl.
You can use sour cream, Greek yogurt, or plain yogurt as the base. It's recommended that you mix the soup sachet through first, before adding the second sachet and mixing again.
Sheets of dried nori.
Top your dip off with nori powder, crumbled nori sheets, or nori chips. Garlic flakes, black sesame seeds, and fried shallots are some other tasty ideas.
