Noisette: The Foamy French Coffee Style You Can't Miss Out On

While “noisette” means “hazelnut” in French, the coffee itself isn’t hazelnut-flavored. The name refers to its color, attained by the addition of foamed milk into an espresso shot.

Noisette lies between the intensity of black coffee, featuring the robust flavor of espresso, and the creaminess of café crème or au lait. It’s also pretty easy to whip up at home.

Start by pouring a shot of fresh espresso (preferably an intense French roast) into a demitasse (a small French espresso cup), then add a small amount of foamed milk, and stir.

Take a sip, if it’s too strong for you, add a bit more milk, ensuring you keep the amount of milk as minimal as possible. The coffee should ideally take on a rich, dark brown hue.
