To make watermelon even sweeter and juicier, add salt. Though it sounds strange, salt amplifies other flavors by increasing saliva and impacting how the brain perceives taste.
The answer to why salting up sweets is such a genius idea lies in your tastebuds. A study by Okayama University found that the chloride in salt activates sweet taste receptors.
Chloride is also believed to interact with a certain taste receptor associated with sweet foods, which sends signals to your brain that react as if you've eaten something sweet.
