Chef Jasper J. Mirabile Jr., owner and chef at Jasper's Restaurant, spoke with Chowhound about how to elevate basic store-bought jarred pasta sauce with a few basic add-ins.
He recommends adding fresh basil and pepper to store-bought sauce, saying he has "even fooled members of my family who thought the sauce was just fantastic."
While many store-bought jars contain basil, it's a far cry from fresh when you pop it open. Fresh herbs add a vibrant, aromatic boost, and the pepper adds a savory kick.
If your sauce still needs a little something, extra salt, garlic, acid, or parmesan all go a long way, giving it a glow-up that will make it indistinguishable from homemade sauce.
