Taco Bell’s Cantina brand began in 2015, when the first Cantina restaurant opened in Chicago, Illinois. These restaurants have no drive-thrus and are a sit-down experience.
The restaurants' clear distinction from the typical Taco Bell locations makes it more in line with the fast-casual sector that encompasses chains like Chipotle and Panera Bread.
The Cantina restaurants are placed in urban environments due to their high foot traffic, and the drive-thru is replaced with a space to walk into and interact with.
At Cantinas, Taco Bell's signature freezes are turned into frozen cocktails called Twisted Freezes. Cantina restaurants also serve beer, wine, and sangria.
