When a salad spinner is spun, the inner strainer basket forces the water off the lettuce and into the outer bowl — a process you can easily replicate with household items.
To recreate the tool’s centrifugal force, which involves the inertia of a rotating object pulling it away from the center, start by stuffing the lettuce inside a clean pillowcase.
Then, grip the open end of the pillowcase closed and spin it around. With several spins, any moisture will transfer from the lettuce to the fabric, giving you ready-to-eat greens.
Alternatively, put the washed lettuce inside a clean plastic bag along with a few paper towels before spinning it. The paper towels will effectively absorb the water.
