Famous writer Ernest Hemingway was also a food aficionado, and through documents and old letters by the author, we know exactly how he liked his hamburgers.
Hemingway liked his burgers formed by hand and pan-fried, not grilled. Pans allow the burger to cook in its own juices, locking in moisture and absorbing fats for more flavor.
In addition, the author preferred his burger cooked medium to medium-rare. He also added wine, eggs, green onion, capers, India relish, and spices in his ground beef mixture.
