Give Your Bloody Mary A Flavor Boost Using An Unconventional Swap

Although the usual recipe of vodka, tomato juice, and heat-packed spices and sauces is revered, the bloody mary has spawned countless variations over the years.
The aquavit bloody mary cocktail is one of those variations. Distilled from either grain or potatoes, aquavit is a strong spirit that originated in the Nordic countries.
Its distillation is flavored with botanicals like caraway, dill, and fennel, making aquavit a more appetizing and complex alcohol base for your bloody mary than vodka.
Per Nuet, a maker of aquavit, the fennel and anise seeds in the spirit also highlight the burn of alcohol, making it more “spicy” — exactly what you’d want in your bloody mary.
To incorporate the Nordic spirit into your bloody mary, simply swap out the vodka for an equal amount of aquavit. From there, you can garnish your drink however you like.
