Although cooking oatmeal in water or milk until it's soft and creamy is the most common method to make it, frying oatmeal after simmering makes it even more comforting.

Frying oatmeal after cooking gives it a golden brown char on its edges and a nutty, toasty finish. The crispy exterior and tender interior create a wonderful dynamic mouthfeel.

You can make fried oatmeal with just cooked or leftover oatmeal that's lost its fresh appeal. Simply pour oatmeal into a container and spread it evenly into a 1/2-inch layer.
