Liquor bottles are often pushed to the back of the cabinet and forgotten about for years. The good news is that many types of liquor can last indefinitely if appropriately stored.
Bottles of liquor on shelf
Most hard liquors with an alcohol content above 30% can last for a lifetime, even after opening. This is because bacteria and even brewing yeasts can't tolerate levels over 20%.

While most liquor won't become dangerous to consume, you may notice a change in flavor and aroma. For instance, whiskies can lose their flavors in as little as six months.

Liqueurs are different because they usually include sugars and other additives that can crystalize. Most liqueurs should be consumed within six months to a year after opening.
Bar shelves full of liquor
To keep your hard liquor shelf-stable, ensure your bottles are sealed tightly and kept in a dark, cool place. Moreover, liquor should always be stored upright and not on its side.
