The Filter

If the filter gets clogged, dishes get dirty. You don't need to clean your filter every time you use the dishwasher, but it should be cleaned every month or so.

Food Scraps

Leaving food on plates that can gunk up your filter is a bad idea. To make dishwashing easier, scrape food off of your dishes before loading them into the dishwasher.

Pre-Rinsing

When you pre-wash your dishes, the sensor can't do its job. All you need to do is scrape off those large food bits, and your dish is ready for the dishwasher.

Half-Loading

Avoid running a dishwasher that's not full, as it uses additional energy and water. This isn't great for the environment and causes utility bills to skyrocket.

Overloading

When the dishwasher is too full, it can't properly clean all your dishes. The water from the jets can't reach all the dishes, and some may still be dirty.
