In Pottsville, Pennsylvania, you can drink beer with origins dating back nearly 200 years from the oldest brewery in the U.S., which you may have never heard of: Yuengling.
Yuengling's brewery was founded in 1829 by David G. Yuengling, an immigrant from Wuerttemberg, Germany who brought German beer recipes and a brain for business.
This wasn't necessarily the first brewery to open in the United States, but it was the one to survive prohibition by selling "near beer", a malt-based beverage low in alcohol.
Today, Yuengling Brewery is still proudly family-owned. Its traditional lager is its most popular offering, but the oldest beers are Lord Chesterfield Ale or Dark Brewed Porter.
