Chinese beverage chain Mixue Bingcheng ("honey snow ice city") has more franchises than any other at over 45,000 — but not even one is open here in the States.
Mixue was opened in 2005 by Zhang Hongchao, a struggling college student born into a farming family. He sold cheap soft serve ice cream for only 1 yuan, and it was a hit.
Hongchao has often told Chinese reporters (via CNN) that his business strategy focuses on letting "people around the world eat well and drink well for just two American dollars."
Today, Mixue Ice Cream and Tea has a valuation of more than $10 billion. The brand has stuck to its guns, selling milk tea with boba at just $1.10 and soft serve for just 50 cents.
