Checkers is an underrated, affordable fast food restaurant. For the past eight years, rapper and entrepreneur Rick Ross has owned multiple Checkers locations.

Ross didn't always have money, and in his song "Buy Back the Block," Ross sings of investing in his community by being able to purchase Checkers and Wingstop locations.

When he was 13, Ross worked long shifts at a car wash. Across the street from his workplace was a Checkers, a quick and cost-effective food option for him.

His decision to buy Checkers wasn't purely motivated by nostalgia — he also loves the chain’s burgers and fries. For him, owning the restaurants is a statement of success.
