Pizza Burger

This is a recipe that my 6 year old son and I created together for a 1st grade homework project. His assignment was to create his own burger recipe – he came up with a pizza burger. We went the extra mile and made homemade dough, but simple buns work fine as well. See us in action @ http://kalenkimm.com/2013/05/pizza-burger-homework-part-deux/

Instructions

  1. 1Sauté the onions, garlic, and mushrooms on low-med heat for 3 minutes. Add the diced bacon then sauté another minute. Allow this to cool then add to ground turkey in a mixing bowl. Mix in Italian Seasoning then form into patties.
  2. 2Grill like a normal turkey burger – about 10 minutes each side over direct heat, add the cheese towards last few minutes.
  3. 3Get all your burger components ready by heating the pizza sauce in a saucepan over medium heat and heat the pepperoni and buns under a broiler in the oven.
  4. 4Assemble your burgers – Take two pizza buns and top 1 side of each with pizza sauce. Place a burger on to the bottom bun, add a little more pizza sauce and then the pepperoni. Place the other bun on top of your burger and, voila, “itsa” pizza burger!
