Pasta Bean Casserole

Ingredients (12)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • 1 can (16 ounces) white beans
  • 1 can (8 ounces) tomato sauce
  • 1 cup tiny pasta shells
  • 1 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons instant chicken or vegetable bouillon, optional
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1 cup frozen peas
  • 1/2 cup shredded cheese

This is a hearty combo of protein-packed beans and pasta. And the little pasta shells don’t have to be cooked separately — just be sure to use tiny shells.


  1. 1Combine oil, onion and garlic in a 2 1/2-quart microwave-safe casserole. Cover and cook with 650 watts, stirring once halfway through, for 3 minutes.
  2. 2Add the beans with their liquid, the tomato sauce, pasta shells, water, bouillon and seasonings. Cover and microwave with 650 watts until pasta is tender, 14 to 18 minutes.
  3. 3Stir in peas and cheese and let stand 5 minutes.
