What did you wind up trying? Have you tried any of the rwelatively new places in the Oregon District or Miamisburg?
I guess it depends on the day. They do not do carry out, or, at least, they would not on the day I tried. My folks live less than five minutes from Jeff's, so I'll get there soon enough, I hope.
Shoot, I meant Easton.
The airport is not far from the Polaris shopping area. Scores of choices.
The Bridge may well do the job for you, then.
The Spot gets busy. They do have carhop service.
The Bridge is pretty good in Sidney. I've never been too impressed with any place in Wapak.
What are you loking for, in particular?
The zoo isn't far from Hilliard, home of the Starliner Diner.I don't think they serve alcohol, though.
Our egg rolls aren't like that in Dayton. The ones I've had elsewehere through the state are not like that either, but that means nothing. Just as different parts of Ohio were settled by folks from different areas of the country, the food itself is apt to be different depending on what part of the ate you are in.
Is there a better way to reach University Circle from downtown than Euclid Avenue?
One place that will know is Al's Cheesesteaks in Delray. Definite Eagles fans.
I'm not sure which Kewpee you've been too, but I've never had a burger like that at any Kewpee location in Lima.
Since this thread was posted, there is a slightly upscale Mediterranean restaurant downtown called Vivace which is very good.
I've not had any issues around the Oregon District outside of (quite) a few panhandlers. I'd stick to the main, well-lit streets jst to be sure.
Wheatpenny is very good, and gets very busy. I'd actually give a thumbs up to each restaurant on 5th. The old Sloopy's location right off Wayne will soon be a restaurant, run by the former chef at the Dayton Racquet Club, so there's another option that would have been unheard of about 20 years ago in the area.
I'm rooting for them. I never could quite tell when Mamma Mia's was open or closed, so I nenver got a chance to try it in the years since my folks moved to Commerce. The menu looks intriging, at least. Respectable reviews by respected foodies means worth checking out, to me.
I know of one grocer/deli in Walled Lake/West Bloomfield, Marz on Haggery road, that carries Towne Club, another longtime Detroit favorite that featured legendary Detroit weatherman Sonny Elliott in the commercials. I'm sure there are other grocers of this type that carry it, as well.
Anyone try Manhattan Deli in Willoughby? Slyman's does indeed have great corned beef, but as I was eating all I was thinking was how good a can of Dr. Brown's would have been, if it was available.
Phnomh Penh in Ohio City has Vietnamese as well as Cambodian. The pho is just fair there. I noticed a few other Vietnamese places driving around.
So long as it's not on a Monday.
Did I miss Bates on the list?
I do believe the construction finished by the end of 2013.
Dayton is about twenty miles from Troy.. Closer, though, is Tipp City. Check out Coldwater Cafe. Or Harrison's, a tad more casual but with a good menu.
Troy itself has La Piazza.
Out of curiosity, which Jungle Jim's?
If you're doing all that driving, why not stop at Velvet Ice Cream in Utica, kind of between Newark and Mt. Vernon?
100% agreement. I have some close friends who are regulars at one near me, so if I want to meet up with them, that's one they choose when it's their turn. The benefits you mention make it not worth an argument, I just make sure I grab a bite elsewhere or stick to the sandwiches.
Thurman's, in German Village, is regarded as one of the top places for burgers in the entire state. Place gets packed, though.
Admittedly, I have not been to Hurricane Wings. But it seems as the wing prices go higher at BW-3's, the wings themselves have been getting smaller. I am all about trying new places, though.
Does it have to be Buffalo Wings? I like Chicken Shack, in general. Several locations throughout Metro Detroit.
There's a Hurricane Wings on Northwestern. I don't think it could be any worse than BW-3's.
I hope you at least stop by the new Jungle Jim's while you're out that way.Of course, all that develoment could have driven property prices up.
I hope they do move. A lot of places say they will find a new location, but never do, unfortunately.
What day are you doing this? Arguably Dayton's best restaurant, Rue Dumaine, is open for lunch Friday's only.
I honestly don't know, but it wouldn't surprise me if the folks who ran it just didn't want to deal with being part of a corporate scene anymore.
I've only tried Salar at last summer's Taste of the Oregon District. The food I tried was fine, but can't say much more than that.
If you like Middle Eastern food, Pasha Grill is a good place to go. I think they might be the only restaurant in the area that has Doner Kebabs. If you had a chance to make it out to Cafe Istanbul, the small chain that occupied the space before Pasha Grill, it's very similar. Nice ambience, very flavorful food.
