Just back from St Lucia. We did not make it to the cooking school, our friends were on a budget and the $95pp fee didn't fit into it. Monday was a day of thanksgiving so many restaurants were closed... so we only ate off resort twice, once at Laurel's and once at Flavors of the Grill. We had 2 incredibly different experiences!
Sadly we were very disappointed with Laurel's this visit. Apparently, Laurel had been away for a while, babysitting, so we had her assistant Olive as server and chef. Service was terrible and while the mains were tasty there were no breadfruit balls, the plantains were scorched and they were out of many menu items. the place was empty until we got up to leave - then another small group arrived. I'm not sure if we'll be back - if we do go again we'll ask if Laurel is cooking that night, not just if they place is open.
Flavors of the Grill on the other hand was wonderful. After raving about both places to our friends and having the disappointing meal at Laurel's the night before, I was a little nervous about FOTG. I shouldn't have worried, everything was wonderful. We ordered hurricanes and daiquiris, akra and jerk wings for apps. For mains we got the grilled pork chop with ginger bbq sauce, the lamb chops and 2 orders of the spare ribs. Lots of yummy noises and OOH try this - and we were one happy group. Dessert choices were somewhat limited for me since I have food allergies, everyone else had sundaes - for the guys coconut ice cream, vanilla for my best friend, another daiquiri for me! Service was prompt (Island style) and friendly, the waitress was happy to explain when we had questions. In contrast to Laurel's the place was busy for the slow season, with at least 4 tables occupied during our time there.
