Very cool! It sure has come a long way. Glad Cross County is getting some good chains. I know I'm dating myself but I remember running around CC and stopping at Woolworth's!

I was going to mention Colony too, but I didn't know if italianices wanted this type of pizza. My family and I inhale these pies. Scrumptious. I'm one of those loyal devotees. Hot oil and sausage is one of the greatest things I've ever eaten. There's apparently a place called "Rico's" that's supposed to be similar to Colony (run by a former employee) but I haven't tried it.

Hi jfood! Oh wow - you just made me like Christian even more. He's a kindred spirit and a great chef and person. I think I'm harboring a mini crush on him. Don't tell Señor Swanky. ;)

Stanziato's in Danbury is a worthy stop. It doesn't look like much from the outside, but the pizza is terrific. They have great inventive pizzas ( love the Piggy Piggy) and classic pies. It's wood-fired, not coal - but I love the place.

Fortina recently opened in Stamford as well. Love their pizzas. It's not vintage old-school, but the place does have its charm and the pizza is great. Christian Petroni's famous Luigi Bianco is a yummy force to be reckoned with. :)

I love Traveler's Rest in Ossining (On Rte. 100) and their yummy comfort food, homey fireplace and awesome giant gingerbread house. They beautifully decorate the grounds in lights as well.

That is a good one too. I haven't seen it in a while.

I leave the King's Hawaiian bread out a few days and then throw it in the fridge - it firms up well enough for the bread pudding. My second favorite is to use day-old croissants.

I actually used both cream and eggnog combined - and then followed along with the rest of the recipe. It worked well.

Yikes - I'm sorry they're putting you through this. Definitely call a meeting and set some ground rules. These people need boundaries asap! It's your home, so your way or the highway. Good luck!

I'm still not brave enough to make my own at home, but I took one for the team and tested a few eggnog brands with friends to find a favorite. (Hey - I'm nice like that!) ;-)

Our favorites were:

Hood Golden
Hood Pumpkin
Ronnybrook
Stewart's (Adirondack NY area chain)
Chipwich (been around forever but so hard to find these days!)

Love it for those purposes too! Kings Hawaiian bread has an awesome bread pudding recipe that I love to use with eggnog. Delicious.

Oh that's great to know - I didn't know you could still get a Cuban there. Thanks again - Jerk Chicken Saturdays sound great and nope - you've never steered me wrong for many years! :)

Good to know thanks Pat. You've got a great eye for the good stuff! I remember that Cuban sandwich that you recommended years ago...those were the days. Will check out Poppy's soon. :)

You wouldn't be interning for the Peanut Principle, would you? If yes, I love your company!! Such tasty and inventive products! I'm with 51rich - Farmer's Markets are where it's at in Westchester. Here's a bit more info about what's going on around here. Hope it helps - good luck!

Dom & Vinnie's in Valhalla - right near Blythedale Hospital - very good old school place. (Cash only)
Also - Mario's Pizza in Mt Kisco - right at the train station - good to very good.

I'm a Salinger's and Stew's fan too. Those are my first choices. Another great cider doughnut stop is Stuart's Farm in Yorktown/Granite Springs - delicious.

Great places. I've been to both - can't agree more. :) I really enjoyed my meals at both places. Gyro World is run by the same family that runs the Lefteris threesome. I've seen pretty good crowds there - especially on Friday and weekend evenings. I hope they stay - that location has been so many things in the past few years.

I was upset at first to see Hanada Sushi's departure but Dai is awesome. Loved the miso soup and rolls. I agree - I worry that a place this good doesn't get the traffic it deserves.

LOVE Stanziato's. Pies are delcious and really inventive. Cool atmosphere too - don't let the plain outside appearance sway you. I only wish they were open on Sundays.

Hi! Not sure if this was posted already but I was at the Pleasantville Farmer's Market this weekend and a cool new vendor was there called Drink More Good who had ginger syrup - really good!! Here's their website and they should be back every week: www.drinkmoregood.com/syrups/

Just got back from our western NY/Niagara Falls vacation and went back to the tried and true sponge candy haunts. We didn't get to Mike's, but we went to Condrell's in Kenmore and Parkside in Buffalo. Both delicious, but the best sponge candy by far is the sponge at Oliver's Candies in Batavia. Absolutely scrumptious, crunchy airy morsels of heaven! And the chocolate is fantastic. So glad I listened to a local and made a stop there too! My stash is getting low unfortunately so thank goodness I can order online!

Had a really good meal at Gyro World in Pleasantville, which opened not long ago. Run by a family member of the Lefteris people (a cousin, I believe). Food very well prepared and friendly service with a few new specialties that aren't on the Lefteris menu (like gemista - stuffed tomatoes and peppers).

Good pics. Los Abuelos in Ossining is another good, authentic taco stop. (Good tortas too!)

My pleasure! So glad you enjoyed it. Yes - the noodles were incredible - I only go for those for my starchy crave. Even more insane is the double-cooked pork *over* the dan dan noodles. Sichuan heaven! :)

Another fan of Mario's in Mt. Kisco. Also - Sinapi's Pizza Rustica in Bedford and Modern Slice in Thornwood are pretty good.
