You'll notice that Wyoming is not on that list of states. While travelling we went through Nebraska, South Dakota, and Iowa too. None of them are listed either. Neither is Montana, North Dakota, Missouri, Kansas, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Texas, nor Minnesota, states I'm familiar with. Some states have laws prohibiting metropolitan areas in their state from having contradictory ordinances such as this.

I've been driving for 47 years. This was my second ticket. My first ticket was when I was 18. Needless to say, I'm a careful driver. You'd think he would have given me a warning if the ordinance was truly for the safety of pedestrians. I'm convinced it wasn't.

Just got back Wednesday from a week in Jackson, WY. I strongly recommend Bubba's Bar-B-Que. Best food and service was there. Bathrooms sparkled.

Sidewinders is fairly good. We went there twice.

Strongly recommend against going to Moe's Original Bar B Que. Service was truly non-existent. I got the catfish plate. Catfish was way over cooked to mush. Hush puppies were served burnt. I ordered the sweet tea from the menu. Asked cashier/waitress 3 times about the sweet tea then said I'd just take regular tea and asked her for some sugar. She brought Sweet 'n Low to the table. Worst meal in Jackson.

I would also recommend avoiding Snake River Brewery and Restaurant. Service was good enough. Both of our plates had cold French fries. Hers were sweet potato fries and mine were supposed to be the Pub fries (batter dipped) but were plain French fries when they arrived. I had iced tea, she had a beer, and we split a bread pudding ... sort of. When the bread pudding arrived it was missing the butter cream sauce so my wife sent it back. It arrived with butter cream sauce. I took one bite and told her she could have the rest. It wasn't any good. The sandwiches were good. $55 for lunch!

Just an FYI: Wyoming allows using a cell phone while driving but Jackson doesn't. No warning ticket. I told the officer I had never heard of not being allowed to use a cell phone to talk (no texting) while driving. $75 ticket. He said it was to protect the pedestrians in Jackson. It's a shame the town council makes the police officers lie about it. I call it the Jackson, Wyoming Police Department's 'screw the tourists, we want money too!!!' tax.

Jackson is way too expensive so brace yourself. I won't be going back ... ever.

That's not a <insert appliance name here>. That's a GE. (That's a quote from a repair man that used to fix our stuff when I was growing up.)

IMHO, GE can't even make a decent light bulb much less a real appliance.

I prefer to use my Victorinox Tinker pocket knife instead of abusing a good knife like that. My pocket knife has a build in can opener that works like the military issue P38 and it's faster and much safer than what the guy is trying to do in the video.

Opinel makes what are considered very good quality knives. One is a scout knife. It locks open, locks closed, and has a round end where a point would usually be. Good folding knife for kids to learn with but I'd reserve it for kitchen use instead of letting her carry it.

CaliforniaJoseph has the right idea. Go to an Asian grocery store and buy what they use in their restaurant. Look at what the Chinese chefs use. Martin Yan sells one but look at that style.

Then there's the Chinese vegetable knife.

Save your money and get what the professionals use.

I have a Russell Green River Works, a Kin Lih, and a Kiwi. Good stuff and cheap.

Someone will say, "You get what you pay for." My reply is, "Many times you don't get what you pay for."

I don't get it. Why buy knives you can't sharpen?

Some knives don't hold an edge for an extremely long time but they're usually easier to sharpen.

Those that hold an edge for a long time are usually harder to sharpen.

It's a trade-off. Take your pick.

I like a high carbon steel for my knives that will get really sharp, won't break, chip, or bend, and I can sharpen myself. And they don't have to cost much. In fact they're dirt cheap. Who am I trying to impress? My wife is the only other person that may be in the kitchen while I'm cooking and she doesn't care what my knives look like.

Just get a knife that can take a decent edge. Sharper knives are safer knives.

I LIKE this knife. Cut up a chicken with it and prepared some vegetables. A classic chef's knife might have been better for finely dicing cloves of garlic but I doubt you could beat it for cutting up a chicken and dicing an onion.

Since I'm not used to that knife yet I held back on cutting up the chicken quickly. I didn't want to slice myself but I felt like I could have cut up the chicken much more quickly.

I like this knife!

Two reasons I try samples at COSTCO -

1) To learn what not to buy (and I've learned a LOT).
2) To snack on what I already know I like and already buy.

I've found some absolutely terrible products at COSTCO by trying samples. They'll never enter my house.

I occasionally find something new I like but that's not a major reason I try samples. It's more by accident.

I'm to the point that I think the samples are to find impulse buyers that will buy something a lot of people don't like. Kiolbasa sausages are one of those items. That's the greasiest tasting nastiness I've ever had.

Sure there is, "the area nearest where the cold air is entering the refrigerator." That's as good as it gets. Anyone can understand that.

I've seen it made by hand and I mean by hand. They roll the dough through their hands and it crumbles smaller and smaller. It's run through a sieve and dried.

If it's not called a pasta then I'm not sure what it is other than couscous.

When people refer to couscous as a grain is it because they actually think it is a grain or because it's a pasta made from wheat which is a grain?

We are a family of four. We get the Executive membership so we get the check yearly. It more than covers the $110 membership fee.

Iowa controls the booze in the state. COSTCO has the lowest markup so best prices.

I bought my computer there and a TV. COSTCO has the manufactures provide a 2 year warranty instead of the usual 1 year warranty on many, many items.

We get literally tons of stuff there every year; groceries, electronics, vegetable garden plants, trees, lawn fertilizer, flower bulbs, booze (as mentioned above), batteries, light bulbs, printer paper, and ink cartridges. I really like the meats and bakery goods. And I try out the food samples. They don't hand out many things I like so I end up learning what not to buy.

COSTCO is across the street to the north from where I work so I get my lunch (salad) there most days.

Across the street to the east is Walmart. Nearly anything we can't get a COSTCO we get at Walmart.

Also across the street to the east is a new Goodwill. I browse around in there some days and pick up an item now and then. I work in a nice area so I've found some new and like new items for next to nothing.

Lowes is next to COSTCO and a large shopping mall is not far north of COSTCO and Lowes. Williams-Sonoma, Bed Bath and Beyond, and some others are there.

I work in a nice spot.

Anyway, that's more than you ever asked but with a regular membership fee of $55 I'd say that if COSTCO is conveniently located for you it would definitely be worth a 1 year trial period.

Spent the day yesterday waiting to get home from work to look at my newly delivered book. Around 8pm when I was ready to settle down and look at it we had a 3 hour power outage. Maybe tonight I'll get more time. Only had about 5 minutes this morning and it looks good!

Yep, you're right.

Mayo Clinic: http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-co...

"Signs and symptoms may start within hours after eating the contaminated food, or they may begin days or even weeks later. Sickness caused by food poisoning generally lasts from a few hours to several days."

pgmrdan commented 7 years ago

14 hours and no symptoms then you're okay. You would have had some problems at around 5 hours.

These days pork can be cooked like beef without worry.

I'd bring it up to full internal temperature for pork (145°F) and finish it if you feel comfortable doing that.

Not that it has peanut butter but banana, Spin Blend, and onion sandwich tastes pretty good. A slice of pepper jack cheese is optional.

If you work with others you may not want to have this for lunch. With banana and onion keep some beano handy.

I agree 100% about the chain pizzas. Well, one exception but it's a small local chain.

pgmrdan commented 7 years ago

Hey, I never said only the stereotypical pizzas can be good. One of the favorites in my family is when I put Canadian bacon, pineapple, and sauerkraut on top of the sauce and cover it with shredded mozzarella or provolone (like IMO's Pizza does in the St. Louis area).

I like jalapenos. Desi pizza sounds like it could be a winner to me.

I think it was in the 1970's that the US government allowed the removal of the word 'imitation' from food labels. That's how we have a product known as Fat Free Half and Half.

How can you have a true Fat Free Half and Half??? Only because of lobbyists and lawyers and politicians can you have something so unbelievably stupid.

I was going to say that. Glad someone did.

Asbestos is natural.

Rotenone and pyrethrin are natural but deadly to insects so they're used as organic pesticides. They're also weak pesticides so more has to be used than if one was using synthetic pesticide. Rotenone was at one time banned from organic use because of its danger to humans but it's been reinstated.

Water is natural but in a large enough quantity it can be deadly to a human.

Natural just means from nature. Doesn't mean much to me as far as safe to ingest.

Believe me, the air can't get any colder after it leaves the vent leading into the refrigerator.

No mystery here.

It's a Chinese Chef's Knife. It's thin behind the cutting edge and up to the spine but it's not flexible. It's a solid little piece of steel.

It's funny how we fret and spend so much time selecting knives. We could probably make a very suitable knife with time, a few tools, an old lawn mower blade, a chunk of firewood, and some epoxy and/or brass rod. Heat treating and sharpening would be the critical parts and they can be done in a home workshop.

I would say the area nearest where the cold air is entering the refrigerator. In my case, the back of the top shelf. Yeah, warm air rises but the coldest air in the refrigerator is the cold air entering the refrigerator.

Pizza is a personal thing. A little too much salt can turn a great pizza into a mediocre pizza for me but others may think it's great. A bit too much of any seasoning can also do the same thing.

There's very little difference between a great pizza and a mediocre/bad pizza.

I think the same is true of a plate of spaghetti because the sauce is also a personal thing.

I've had a lot of mediocre pizza (and spaghetti) in my life. For decades I wouldn't eat restaurant pizza.

When I go to a new Italian restaurant I usually order spaghetti to decide if I like the restaurant.

I still remember the pizzas from Pagliai’s Pizza & Pasta in Cape Girardeau, MO from 40 years ago. Now those were very, very good pizzas.

The S5197 looks well made. Sticker on it brags about how well it has been sharpened. It had a bad wire edge. Used a leather strop to remove the wire. Didn't have time to use it. It's not nearly as sharp as described on the tag but that can always be fixed.

I like the handle and the shape of the blade. The nicely shaped brass bolster is a plus.

I think I'll like it and after I get used to that style of knife I can move up to a Nakiri or whatever.

I think you know I was only kidding with that method of preparation.

I thought it was funny but I crack myself up sometimes.
