HA HA HA! What kinda Italian are you? Burnt grain. I sorta think you know how to say "ass" in our native tongue. Though, I confess, i had to look it up (not ass, but arso). The grano part was intuitive--arso, not so much.

But(t?!) by any name, this place is fantastic and I'm thrilled they're here.

HA! No, so many of my favorite places have disappeared (the Mexi place in the food court, Bubba's). Do you have some favorites there? I really liked the Mexican place, SolToro Tequila Grill, but haven't been in YEARS.

HOLY SMOKES--that's gotta be a new record for opening and closing--how many months were they even open? They could be tied for Disco Chix, or whatever it was in M'town. What a shame. But yeah, I hadn't heard fantastic things, either. Honestly, we were just talking to one of our friends in Westbrook about it this weekend. But I'll look into Rebekah's, thank you.

Love Otto, the rugelach especially at Cozy Corner, the Centerbrook cheese shop and Ashlawn for sure! Has anyone been to Wright's?

A colleague and I put together a road trip list of dining destinations off of I-95 en route to the casinos you may find helpful.

Thanks, too, for reminding me I've been meaning to try Bufalina for a long time.

Has anyone been to Carson's on Whitfield in Guilford? Their food looks great in photos, but haven't been yet.

New and noteworthy at the corner of Main Street in Chester--you're gonna love it here (we do!). We're talking about whole grains milled to make bread and pasta and a focus on what's fresh and local--from beets to chicories, Stonington reds, killer cocktails, desserts and so much more. Grano Arso gets this kat's vote for best new resaturant of 2017!

More than four years later, I google to find the answer to the same question and I find ... YOU! :) I know you use it, Meesch--is Park Street your go-to spot, or have you found another?

No, by "something new," I was referring to the farm-to-table event at Lyman's stuartlafonda had posted. But I absolutely stand by my mom's assessment of learning to ski at Powder Ridge!

You won't go wrong with either choice. Know that Taino is outside seating right now and they've done a really nice job with it.

As to your history in this area, we've probably crossed paths. My parents' card shop was across the street from Wendy's in that timeframe. :) P.S. My mom always says if you learned to ski at Powder Ridge you can ski ANYWHERE!

Here's the menu:

Yes, it's an actual restaurant located at the corner of Main Street and Commerce in Portland:

There's a blackboard of daily specials and a hash of the day that changes with the seasons.

The cover photo here shows the sign you'll see on the street:

I'm probably headed there today, in fact!

Have fun--if the lines are long at O'Rourke's, cross the river to Sarah's on Main in Portland. I love it there!

Update: either they changed the bread, or what we were served in the past was stale, because what came to the table tonight was warm and perfectly delicious. As to the dip that goes with, it's roasted red peppers, not sundried tomatoes, but either way, just excellent. What a nice night out! Thank you both for reminding me I'd been missin' the Red Fox. :)

Here's what we had for dinner--fresh and tasty from beginning to end, bread included! :)

Correction re the windows: I called to inquire as I thought we were going tonight, but happy to report, the windows are closed. They said they would open them if I wanted--how about that?!

Tannery? This?

I'm just gonna throw it out there as I've not seen it mentioned here. I really do like the phoritto at MexiPho. It is IMMENSE and tasty.

Agree wholeheartedly. My only minor complaint is they reconfigured the dining room that faces the street and--last summer, anyway--they'd open the very large windows, which let smoke and bugs in (UGH). I do love their lunch menu and miss going. Can't think of when we went last. Why do I have no recall on their moving the patio to the side?! I guess that was last summer with the whole floor-to-ceiling windows?

In any case, yes, SO many favorites there: the chicken fettucine, chicken piccata, veal scallopine ... and the figs I had for an app when in season last summer. The only bummer besides the windows is their bread. Excellent dip for it (oil, sundried tomatoes, Gorgonzola, maybe?), but the bread is nothing special, especially considering how good everything else is.

We missed your lunch window, didn't we, Elisa (sorry about that). Hope you found something great and will tell us what it was next time you're here.

In Manchester, you can't and won't go wrong at Mulberry Street, a.k.a. The Mulb.

I've not yet been to Cafemantic (it's been on my "gotta get there" list for some time), but people who's taste I trust highly recommend:

If you haven't been since you were an infant, do seek out the Frog Bridge in Willimantic. :) I love those frogs. You will, too. :)

Yup, the one where Nardelli's is now was my growing up hometown DD location and the South Main one is closest to home for me now. I can't think of a DD that's on anything BUT a tiny plot of land. In theory, shouldn't we just be running in (or driving through) to get our stuff and get going?

LOL @ flap! It boggles the mind why we have so much of the same thing in close proximity--and all opening around the same time. Maybe people are too chicken to try something else?!

GEEZ, M'town is really TAKING OFF with all these WINGS! LOLOL! While we're at it, could someone PLEASE open another Dunkin' Donuts here?

Seriously, I would just about kill for a high quality Italian bakery. All these Italians and not a one! And we never had one, either. Go figure. Crazy, crazy.

I would save myself the trip and go to Lucky Lou's. ;) Aren't you down New Haven way? I like Mickey's in Hamden. He does lamb, if I remember correctly. Not that that's on the way home from Hartford, but just adding on.
