I had a tasty lunch there last week. Different from the run of the mill Indian food, for example, you won't find butter chicken or tika massala on the menu. Speaking with one of the owners, she told me it is fashioned on typical Irani cafes found in Mumbai. Nice addition to the lunch scene in my hood!
My Kitchen by Gancena in Fergus looks good. I haven't been there yet, but I've heard nothing but good things.
Looked all over down town for them today. Fiesta Farms had some, but they looked pretty grim - very blemished and maybe even a little mouldy!
Momo at Loggia's Corner!
Went looking for this place on the weekend. Spotted the line-up from a block away!
Has anyone tried it yet? Is it worth the Uncle Tetsu wait?
With a name like that it'd be painful to squeeze out any kind of profit...
Walked past the late Cha Lau location on Yonge St and saw a notice of a new restaurant to open soon: The Captain's Boil. I can't think of a more unfortunate name!
5 miles is a pretty big radius - that covers pretty much of the area from the lake to St Claire, Broadview to Ossington. Any cuisine in particular? Posh or pub? The choices are limitless!
Great list, happycamper. I'd like to add Bill's Lobster on Gerrard if I may. I've always had good luck there. I even buy the regular tuna when I'm making something like poke. Always impeccably fresh!
Sounds like the one made at Dumpling House on Gerrard. I can't wait for cooler temps to return so I can get me some!
I always go for the specials menu. If they have the green beans with matcha powder don't miss it. I also like their pressed sushi. Gotta have whatever is raw too!
I've been very satisfied with Bill's. Great service and nothing but super fresh fish, in my experience. I also like TnT (Cherry St), but had a bad time once with a bag of mussels and with the sardines.
If you are up to it, I really like the Chinese grocery store on Spadina, north of Dundas, east side (sorry, I don't know the name). Amazing selection of fish and seafood, but it can get really busy. If you're claustrophobic, you might not want this option.
I've been digging the one at Black Bird in the market. They take a piece of their amazing sourdough and flatten it like a small, rustic pizza, top it with a slice a speck, an egg and fresh herbs. Coming in at about the same price as an Egg McMuffin, it's an incredible deal! Also available meat-free.
HI folks,
I"m planning to spend Sunday in and around Elora, and would like to have a picnic lunch. Does anyone know of an area that has public grills available?
Failing that, any recs for a chow-worthy lunch?
Shrimp is almost always sold frozen because of its perishability. Unless it's live, (like spot prawns) I'll choose frozen. I expect octopus and squid are the same.
I wanted to like the one on Queen W, but after 2 bad meals, I went in to have a salad. The cook started to prepare it with bare hands right after handling raw chicken. I demanded my money back and didn't return. No wonder they didn't last.
I'm not sure if Blackbird makes a multi-grain loaf, but I'm in love with their spelt bread with sesame seeds!
Loblaws MLG has them today - $30 lb along with porcini, bluefoot and chantarelle. All looked fresh and plump!
I saw porcini (very poor condition, btw) at the Loblaws, Maple Leaf Gardens, $30lb
I've been foraging pheasant back mushrooms in the Toronto ravines. They seem to be plentiful this year!
MacMillian's in Ajax has it on their product list. I haven't been there inperson to verify it's in stock.
Has anyone seen these in the GTA?
I dropped in for lunch there on Monday and spotted Susur Lee chowing down!
I won't be able to make to my secret spot till next weekend. Hope it's not too late!!
Roselle?
Speaking of morels - any sightings yet?
The chip wagon on the highway just south of town is outstanding!
I don't know about seed packets, but dried habaneros which are full of seeds are available at Perola's in Kensington Market. No reason that they wouldn't geminate.
I've used Seacore many times in the past, but for large orders - 250 lobsters and 4-6 cases of oysters. Service has been great and the product fantastic!
It was made in Malaysia.
The oil is orangey-red with whitish clumps throughout. It has a soft-solid consistency.
